Natural Spring Simmer Pot

If you’re looking for an all natural and budget friendly way to make your home smell lovely, you’ve come to the right post!

Spring, with it’s vibrant energy and promise of new beginnings, holds a special place in my heart. (The first day of spring just happens to be my birthday)! It's a season where nature awakens from its winter slumber, melting away the snow to reveal a world bursting with color. I often liken it to the true 'new year', as the longer days and warmer temperatures invigorate us with renewed vitality.

As the earth begins to blush with the blossoming of trees, grass, and flowers, our spirits lift in tandem. We find ourselves naturally more productive, shedding the covers of our winter hibernation to embrace the lightness and freshness of the season.

Our homes, too, seem to echo this sentiment, craving open windows and the sweet scents of spring. It's a time for simmering pot recipes that perfectly capture the essence of this rejuvenating season.

I have a fondness for cast iron in my kitchen. Not only is it the healthiest option for cooking and baking, but it’s durability ensures it can be passed down through generations.

Now, let's dive into the ingredients, shall we?

But before we do, I must confess, I'm not one for following recipes. I prefer to cook intuitively, relying on my senses of taste and smell rather than precise measurements. While I understand this approach might be challenging for some, I encourage you to embrace your creativity and trust your instincts when adding ingredients. I’ll make my best estimates for you, but let your senses guide you to the perfect pot.

My spring simmer pot contains:

Lemon / Grapefruit / Rosemary / Thyme / Black Pepper (course) / Vanilla extract / Almond extract / Fresh floral

Roughly 6-8 cups water, 1 lemon, 1 grapefruit, 2 springs rosemary, 1 cup thyme, 3T Vanilla, 1T almond, floral

Other items to use: Eucalyptus, Mint, Chamomile, Basil, Ginger, Oranges, Lavender, Cucumber and Lime

Set your stove to simmer, and make sure to check your simmer pot often so the water doesn’t evaporate and begin to burn. Add water as needed.

If you have a wood stove like me, I like to set my dutch oven on the top of that, which ever so slowly releases the scents.

I hope this inspires you to not only keep fresh ingredients on hand but to use them in unconventional ways, infusing your home making with the vibrant spirit of spring. Let's embrace the simplicity and natural beauty of organic decor, finding joy in the creative process.

As always, I'm grateful for your presence here, sharing in the simple pleasures of our modern home.

Happy Spring, and may creating your home be as refreshing as the season itself.
