What is your flooring?

Hardwood, Vinyl, LVP, Engineered Wood…what’s the scoop?

One of the most commonly asked questions around here. In our past homes, we have tried it all- vinyl, luxury vinyl, real hand scraped hardwood, and in our most current home we landed on engineered wood.

Engineered wood IS real wood, it’s just not the full thickness of real wood. This only makes a difference when it comes to sanding it down. You can sand real wood floors many times, while with engineered wood, you can only sand it down a few times. In our case, twice. Ours has a 50 year warranty! Meaning, I’ll have great grand children before it needs to go. lol.

So why did we land on Engineered wood?

Our most favorite flooring was our hand scraped white oak from our Texas home. In Minnesota though, you rarely see full thickness hand scraped hardwoods. It’s SO much more expensive here! Vinyl is our least favorite. I don’t want to knock it at all, because it’s a dream as far as durability. (Waterproof, scratchproof, etc). Some of them can be stunning! But…to us, it just feels a bit cold on our feet, and that’s how we got to the happy medium of engineered wood.

Warm, real, and cost effective.

All the details are below. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a link with a website I’ve ever heard of before, so just google this flooring and you’ll see several options pop up. I would never want to lead you astray on where to order from- ours came from a little local flooring company, but it does look like there are several options online. Have the best day! -Anna
